This parish is unusual among Catholic parishes in Ireland in that it is co-extensive with a civil parish, that of Glenkeen.〔Samuel Lewis, (A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland ), 1837, volume 1, page 654. Confirmation of Lewis's statement can be had by comparing the map in the entry for the civil parish with that in the entry for the ecclesiastical parish.〕 The parish church, located in the town of Borrisoleigh, is dedicated to the Sacred Heart and is paired with an older church some three kilometers away at Ileigh.
